Baby Esther is the baby girl bringing in smiles for a Zimbabwean couple in their 50s...
Becoming parents is just a given for many people. It's just something that they always imagine will happen for them.
For this Zimbabwean couple, it has not been so simple. Eleanor Mukura and Alex Dandadzi have been trying to conceive for twenty years, and after undergoing several surgeries, they finally said hello to their baby girl, Esther.
Eleanor was first made aware of her fertility problems when she found out that she had fibroids, growths on her uterus that were the cause of her not being able to fall pregnant.
Twice I had them removed and twice they grew back. I was on the verge of making a final decision to have my uterus removed when one Sunday morning I received an unexpected phone call from an old childhood friend who had had a similar experience of fibroids-removal treatment at Netcare Park Lane Hospital in Johannesburg.- Eleanor Mukura

Their story is one filled with heartache but teaches us that with a renewed sense of hope and faith, pretty much anything can come to light. In this case it was their baby girl, Esther.
"The couple’s journey was filled with disappointments, failures and hardships, but in the end, it paid off." (IOL)
Mukura shared that they decided to travel to South Africa, from their home in Zimbabwe, with the hopes of having a child.
After some time, we were referred to Trouw. However, by this stage, the fibroids had once more grown back, so I had to undergo my fourth fibroid removal before we could continue with IVF treatment. This time it was a success, and we were filled with an incredible sense of hope. However, no sooner had I reached the end of the first trimester when devastatingly, I had a miscarriage. We had come so far and decided to keep on trying.- Eleanor Mukura
But after undergoing her fifth and final IVF treatment, that proved to be the one that made all the difference. She ended up falling pregnant and having her miracle baby. The thing that grabbed our attention with this story is that this couple are in their 50s, but that didn't stop them from trying.
Mukura proved that at 52, you can still birth a healthy baby. Some things in life are beyond medical science. It cannot be explained when you feel that your purpose in life transcends hardship. That's what we learnt from this story, that when you have faith and keep persevering, you can get what's meant for you...
A hearty congratulations to the happy family...
