Seeing students and teachers come together is always worth celebrating. It's a powerful reminder of the impact great educators can have.

We recently saw a heartwarming example of a teacher who got into the profession for the right reasons – passion, commitment, and care.

In a time when many KZN parents are reeling from troubling news of a teacher allegedly having inappropriate conversations with a student at a prominent school, this uplifting video reminds us that there are still dedicated educators making a difference.

Northwood School, with over 75 years of academic, sporting, and cultural excellence, continues to hold a strong reputation in the Durban North community.

As the boys of Northwood gathered on the sports field to perform their war cry, a few teachers and senior management staff stood on the sidelines.

But the students had something special planned for one person in particular – Mr Reggie Govender, Norwood School’s deputy principal.

As they performed their war cry and the momentum grew, a group of older boys pulled Mr Govender into the action.

He unknowingly became a part of the action, and instead of resisting or stepping out, he joined in with a big smile and matched their enthusiasm.

Students applauded Mr Govender for being such a good sport, and the comment section was just as heartwarming:

  • "I’m a Glenwood old boy but naaaah Northwood has the vibes! Yaaaassss."

  • "GeeeeeVeeeee Northwoods Greatest!!! Man, that kind sir kept me on my Toes Always!"

  • "Bet not a single one of these kids is bullied or bullies others - the school unity is strong."

  • "The Governator is one of our best assets."

  • "This is exactly how I remember my school days! Teachers were always involved in the fun and part of the plan."
