Mom shares scary incident at school drop off

What's more important when dropping off your kids – what you're wearing or making sure they get into school safely?

If you're a parent with a child at school, you know that mornings can be manic. Just getting out the door on time, without forgetting anything, is a win.

Between making sure your kids are showered, fed and dressed, and have their lunches packed, it's a miracle any parent manages to leave the house looking presentable for the school run.

If you're a stay-at-home parent or work from home, lounging in your pyjamas all day might be perfectly acceptable – but not at school drop-off. There's an unwritten rule: sleepwear stays at home.

A mother recently took to social media to share a terrifying experience she had while dropping her child off at crèche.

She explained her usual drop-off routine: park the car, get out with her daughter, and personally escort her to the school gate, where she hands her over to a teacher.

But on this particular day, another mother parked next to her and did something alarming. Instead of walking her child to the gate, she simply let her out of the passenger seat and told her to go on her own.

Katlego KatMatlala, the concerned mother, was shocked – the little girl looked no older than two. What happened next was even more shocking. The mother shut the car door and began reversing. Without checking where her child was.

KatMatlala saw the toddler standing behind the moving car and frantically banged on the vehicle to get the mother's attention.

KatMatlala shared that the mother, clearly frustrated, shouted at her child. It was only then that she noticed the woman was wearing a nightgown. Suddenly, it all made sense and she realised she'd likely stayed in the car to avoid being seen in her sleepwear.

But after nearly reversing into her own child, KatMatlala urged her to walk her daughter in because safety should always come first.

We live in a world where children are at risk of trafficking, kidnapping, and worse. If the fear of being labeled "the nightgown mom" stops us from ensuring their safety, then our priorities are seriously misplaced.

What would you do if you had to drop your child off at school in your sleepwear?
