Make way for the newest sport to be added to the Olympics: Breakdancing!
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Breakdancing will finally be recognised as an Olympic sports category, along with surfing, skateboarding, and sport climbing.
Breakdancing is a street style dance that was born during the early hip hop movement in the 1970s and is considered to be the most widely known of all hip hop dance styles.

The style is said to have been based on the debut album from Mothers of Invention, 'Freak Out!', and originated from Latin American and African American youths in New York.
Now after being an influential style of dance for many decades, the sport is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
It being in the Olympics, it makes sense that people would refer to it as (a sport) but I think one thing for the breaking community is we want to make sure that it's not known as just a sport but an art, a sport, a culture- Logan "Logistx" Edra (Break dancer)

This comes after the International Olympic Committee came to the decision to add the sport to the 2024 Olympic Games, which is set to take place in Paris, France.
After incorporating the sport at the Youth Olympics in Argentina in 2018 for a trial run, it was a success and so will also be used to hopefully attract a younger audience.

The venue for the 2024 breakdancing Olympic competition has already be determined and it will be taking place in a downtown area in Paris, along with sport climbing and 3v3 basketball.

According to an Olympic programme commission report, around one million people partake in breakdancing and the 2019 Red Bull BC One World Final had more than 50-million viewers.
Well, we're happy to see the Olympic committee finally catching up and making space for an even wider variety of sports!
