LOCAL: What happened to Nestlé's Peppermint Crisp?
As South Africans we love our chocolates and chips, take them away and we WILL notice!
We are known for our attachment to snacks as South Africans. Whether that has to do with our favourite flavoured chips or our traditional tarts that use Amarula or Tennis Biscuits and Peppermint Crisp.
So when they disappear from the supermarket shelves, best believe that we will notice. We have often had little discussions about our favourite chocolates from our childhood, the ones that were discontinued. It was then that we realised the sense of nostalgia that these sweet treats brought to our lives.
Recently, consumers noticed a shortage of the Peppermint Crisp on shelves. As we all know, celebrating Heritage Day goes hand in hand with a lekker Peppermint Crisp Tart, so we assume that this is another reason that many people noticed the shortage.
The head of public relations, media engagement, and content digital for Nestlé East and Southern Africa Region Zweli Mnisi, noted that as much as there was a noticeable shortage in August, South Africa's favourite is back and ready to be enjoyed.
"Mnisi says the slight stock shortage that they experienced was due to a factory maintenance and upgrade process at their East London factory, however, the product is now available on shelves," MSN reports.
We apologise to our consumers for any inconvenience, as they could not find this much-loved product. As we speak, the product is available at retail shops and we encourage our consumers to purchase and enjoy this delicious and Proudly South African product.
When asked about some of our old time favourites like the Chocolate Log, he was the bearer of bad news.
He mentioned that "as a consumer-centric organisation – their purpose is to delight their consumers through tastier and healthier products. He said it is for this reason that, through research, innovation, as well as ongoing consumer engagements, they discontinue certain products and introduce new ones to the market." (MSN)
We just wanted to say, as much as we are all for innovation and creativity, sometimes we wonder, why take away something that still works?
We find that we are extremely sentimental when it comes our nostalgic snacks and so we hope that they can slow down when it comes to the innovation, because we don't think we can take any more discontinuations...
