Local artist Rasta honours Gee Six Five with portrait painting

South African painter Rasta, real name Lebani Sirenje, is known for his polarising artwork and once again people are feeling some kind of way about his latest piece.

The formidable and much-loved force that was Gee Six Five entered our lives with her single, 'Obani Lababantu'.

The isiZulu song was an instant hit and went viral for all the right reasons.

At the age of 65, Olpha Selepe created one of the biggest local hits of 2020.

Unfortunately, just two weeks ago, her niece broke the news of her passing

Now it was only a matter of time before Rasta would try his hand at immortalising her likeness by painting a Gee Six Five portrait.

And the time has come:

Rasta has become quite popular and people are always very excited to see his latest pieces.

Although these reactions aren't always 100% positive and it's difficult to determine if his fans truly admire his work or just like to poke fun at him.

But this seems to be one of his better presentations.

While his final products might be a bit questionable and definitely aren't the most conventionally beautiful paintings, he still is very talented.

As long as you can recognise the person in the painting, he's done his job... right?

Well, while Rasta continues doing what he does best, or does okay, we'll just leave the art criticising to the art critics.
