LISTEN: Five-year-old boy calls the police when his mum collapses
Updated | By East Coast Radio
A young boy finds his pregnant mom on the floor and calls the emergency services.
As parents, we all experience those moments of extreme fear where we think what would happen to our kids if something were to happen to us?
Have you ever thought about this as a parent? Is it something you have prepared your kids for? Well, this little boy shows both bravery and complete calm in saving his mom.
Monty Baker, a five-year-old boy, sounded the alarm when his mom, who happened to be pregnant, collapsed and he was left alone with his baby sister.
He even went as far as cycling over to his grandparent's house to get help. Holly Simmons, the emergency handler, said that Monty was calm and gave her all the details she required. He provided her with his mother's name, their address, and he left the door open for the emergency respondents.
His mother, Amber Baker, shared how proud she is of his efforts. "I wasn’t surprised by how calm he was. He takes everything in his stride. Nothing much bothers him," she told Metro.
To celebrate his amazing efforts and his 6th birthday, the Sussex Police Department gifted Monty with many gifts, and the community policing group gifted him a model police car.
Chief Constable Jo Shiner awarded a special certificate to Monty and said: "‘You have to agree that Monty is quite the hero. We are so impressed at how brave he is and his mum couldn’t be more proud."
