Joan Armatrading, the legendary singer-songwriter chats to Carol Ofori about her new album Consequences.
Joan Armatrading, Kittitian - English singer/songwriter and guitarist - has released her 22nd album and took some time to chat with Carol Ofori.
Consequences is her 22nd studio album and ably demonstrates Joan Armatrading's passion for constantly reinventing herself. The album is a very different follow-up to 2018’s UK Top 30 album, Not Too Far Away, and is one of her most intimately raw albums to date.
Of course, the change of pace will come as no surprise to Joan's many legions of fans worldwide since she has always been a pioneer in her field.
Ever since the release of her debut album in 1972, during which her then-record company admittedly had little idea of how to position her due to her uniqueness. It should also be remembered that Joan Armatrading was the very first female singer/songwriter from the UK to have international success with the songs she both wrote and performed.
Joan Armatrading is always inventive and her skill set is exemplary - made even more evident by her list honours.
Joan was recently awarded a CBE, an Ivor Novello Fellowship and she also received a lifetime achievement award from Women of the Year.
With her heartfelt, direct and melodic vocal style., Joan tells us exactly how it is - maintaining a strong rhythmic flow throughout the album. Consequences is an album with some surprises, for sure, but it's housed in passionate intensity - not about Joan herself as the title would suggest. Rather, it's an album written through observation and is filled with lyrical content that we can relate to.
Joan also shares the news that she will be supporting the release of her new album with an exclusive global livestream for fans: ‘Joan Armatrading with Band – Live from London’, streaming at 10PM (GMT +2) on the 31 July 2021.
We love her energy and her anecdotes as she reaches a milestone moment in her musical career.
