Surely this must be some sort of printing mistake?

We can all agree that the price of food has escalated quite a bit over the past few years.

And with the unsteady food prices and the lack of employment, it has been anything but a happy experience shopping for many South Africans.

But what really gets us feeling even more nervous about the state of our future is when we see outrageously priced items that don't really add up.

South African film director and podcast host, Jessie, from Johannesburg recently shared a bizarre find at her local retailer.

Whilst walking around, she came across a peculiar price tag for a box of KitKat cereal. The price of chocolate has risen quite a bit, but this price is just ridiculous.

She pans her phone to show us that the box of cereal, which is 330g in size, cost R247.99.

Jessie was so shocked at the price, so much so that she questioned whether it might have gold flakes in it.

It is quite outrageous to pay over R200 for a box of cereal that will most likely be finished in one or two sittings.

We really loved the comments...

Shanay0396: "rather buy kit kat chocolate and throw it in my milk"

Bohemian Pineapple: "I can’t be complaining about the price of Douwe Erberts coffee and. Kit Kat cereal I choose my battles"

Chantiiiiii: "The discontinue nesquik because of low demand but we have R300 cereal from the US because it’s in demand? Like who are these R300 cereal buyers"

Chad Kennedy: "people who buy these are people that have so much money they have no respect for it anymore"

And one woman said: "It’s not that great.. my son said he’d rather eat rice crispies". To hear that someone actually paid that price to taste it is just astounding.
