The Invisible Thief: Durban syndicate using muti to appear invisible to law enforcement
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Say whaaaat? This is absolutely cray-cray...
It's fair to say that we have come across some crazy stories, and we are not the type of people who would discredit any form of tradition, but this is just an absolute reach when it comes to operating in bad faith.
Of course, we have heard of many stories where people have gotten their hands tied up in 'Muti' and have been promised many things in engaging in this practice. We are by no means attacking anyone's belief system, but to go against the law by using traditional charms, now that's just wrong.
There are many things that criminals have tried in the past when it comes to evading law enforcement. That's an obvious given, if you are engaging in something that is wrong then you would obviously try anything and everything to get away with it.
So this syndicate, which is said to be operating in Durban, using Muti to get away with theft, shouldn't be surprising to us. The promises of bringing back a lost lover or winning the jackpot, those are all real ambitions for some people, who get taken advantage of by this industry.
Therefore it isn't surprising that people who believe in this practice would want to use it as a way of getting away with crime.

"A 45-year-old man from KwaMashu and a 42-year-old woman from Umlazi belonged to a theft syndicate that operated only on weekends. The duo was caught inside a supermarket where they were dropped off by a silver-grey VW Polo in Durban." (News24)
On Sunday, the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) team were made aware of suspects that were inside a store. The RUSA Team observed the suspects and then arrested them.
"Upon searching the suspects, officers found a bottle of muti tied to the female’s waist and a bottle tied to the man’s arm. They were then positively identified as the suspects sought for several theft cases in the Durban area." (News24)
Upon further interrogation, it was revealed that the suspects belonged to a syndicate that were operating at busy retail stores in Durban over the weekends.
They went on to explain that their kingpin would take them to a witch doctor, situated in Umlazi, KZN, first, and that they were provided with muti that would make them invisible to law enforcement.
Talk about crazy stories?! The thing is that we wonder if they got a money-back guarantee, because obviously the muti didn't work for them...
