INSPIRING: Kelly Slingers - helping communities with supplies one flight at a time...

This is what happens when you couple your passions...
Many times in life we reach a crossroads and it's not an easy place to be in. Whether that means you are placed in a difficult spot making a decision about your future or the future of others, ultimately you have to follow your gut.
Kelly Slingers, a 29-year-old pilot, certainly proved that you can couple your passions, even if they don't generally go hand in hand. She took her love for flying and for social justice and made it work.
She started a non-profit organisation called 'The Plane Project' and started using her profession of being a pilot to help communities who were in need of supplies.
"Thanks to donations from organisations and businesses, she can help the most vulnerable gain access to essential goods. Slingers began transporting medical and other essential supplies, including personal protective equipment, to remote parts of South Africa," News24 reports.
She uses her time to help communities that are in need of medical supplies, food, and anything that can help them during their times of need. She even made trips to our beautiful province during the unrest to help our communities out.
When I started this project, initially it was to promote careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). We work with organisations including Gift of the Givers, church relief organisations and private companies who've sponsored flights, fuel and supplies.- Kelly Slingers
"Slingers speaks at various schools around the country and has taken young girls under her wing, encouraging them to take to the sky or get involved in the aviation sector. She's made it her mission to ensure that the industry is "open for everyone"." (News24)
She certainly is doing what she loves and that is evident in her work. The fact that The Plane Project is helping so many South African communities is truly an inspiring sentiment of what can be done when you couple your passion for people with your profession. It shows that no matter what we do, where there is a will, there is a way...
