Happy 'No Pants Day', KZN!
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Did you know that today is No Pants Day? Yes, it's a thing. On this day you are required to publicly wear just your undergarments on the bottom half of your body... we promise we're not kidding!
In saying that, we are by no means saying that you should show up to work without any pants. Let's join in the fun by learning about something you didn't know.
One, new materials that incorporate living organisms such as algae and bacteria, coupled with powerful technology, are being fabricated to make clothing items. Woohoo algae pants, who could say "no" to those?!
According to ZME Science: "Clothes made from algae would address some of the negative environmental effects of the textile industry, manufacturing high-quality fabrics that would be sustainability produced and completely biodegradable. Plus, they would not need to be washed as often as conventional clothes."
Our second fun thing to know is that newspaper comic artists in the US have decided to celebrate No Pants Day in a quirky but thoughtful way by encouraging people to donate to charities that have been hit hard due to COVID-19.
Fans of the newspaper comics will see something missing in their strips today... pants! Characters from popular cartoon strips, such as Blondie, Pinhead, and Zippy, will be without pants today. Don't get alarmed, it is a fun way for them to create some joy around the day, whilst also being able to highlight a good cause.
No Pants Day, which occurs on the first Friday in May, is said to have been started by a group of students from the University of Texas. They thought that it would be a fun way to end the semester (The Star).

We may not be celebrating by failing to wear our pants, but we sure are celebrating a win when it comes to being pro sustainable fashion, and, of course, pro helping out with donating any clothing that you don't have use for anymore.
