"Finding opportunity in difficulty is what the youth need"
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Carol Ofori shares her feelings surrounding the book launch of 'We Were Always Here' in Durban this week, which spoke to the roles that Africans played in the world of invention.
Carol Ofori went to the book launch for 'We Were Always Here' at Ike's Books and Collectibles on Florida Road, Durban.
She was amazed to find the depth of knowledge and drive that entrepreneurs possess on a large scale. This book, authored by Dr Candice Bailey, Lerato Makate, Sizwe Malinga, Les Owen, and Therese Owen, houses the stories of African entrepreneurs with the innate ability to think innovatively.
"‘WE WERE ALWAYS HERE’ contains 42 remarkable and inspirational stories about the work of Black entrepreneurs, inventors, and ‘out of the box’ thinkers that have made their mark across the world, but in South Africa and the USA in particular. The stories are short, easy to read, and often confounding in their ingenuity." (SA Good News)
Challenging our ideas and what we turn them into only sometimes results in fruition, but hearing these stories helps us connect our ideas to a bigger picture.

Carol Ofori was impressed by the book and its ability to connect the world of opportunity with the concept of 'difficulty'. This is what she had to say.
I'm really excited to have gone to this launch. It's important that as many of us read the book as possible. It encourages us to think outside of the box and also remember that as the world is changing and we are in incredibly difficult times, this is the time for opportunity. Finding opportunities in difficulty is where the sweet spot is and that's what I like about this book. All these different inventors across Africa went through very trying times and found opportunities and became inventors and that's what our young people of today need.- Carol Ofori
