Experts warn men against shaving off their eyelashes

Do long eyelashes make men feel less manly? We think it's a desirable trait.

Bat your eyelashes over this for a second – some men are shaving off their eyelashes in a bid to look more masculine.

Yes, it sounds as bizarre as it looks.

According to the New York Post, "The latest in men’s aesthetics is eyelash trimming, in which men are cutting their lashes to appear more 'manly' – much to the dismay of the rest of us."

Videos circulating on social media show barbers shaving off men's eyelashes, leaving their eyelids completely bare.

In a world where women spend fortunes on achieving longer, fuller lashes, some men are deliberately shaving theirs off to appear more masculine – oh, the irony.

"I witnessed a walk-in client who asked a barber to shave off his eyelashes. He said he didn’t like how long they were and that his wife criticised them for looking too feminine,” one barber wrote online

“He was even willing to pay extra.”

This bizarre trend is more than just a questionable beauty choice – it’s a risk to eye health.

Ophthalmologist Dr Ashley Hayden told the New York Post, "The more you interrupt the natural life of your lashes, the worse it will be for your eyes."

Eyelashes aren’t just there for aesthetics; they shield your eyes from dust, dirt, and the sun’s rays while also preventing dryness.

On top of that, shaving them off with sharp tools like electric shavers comes with the added risk of injury.

With all the downsides, this so-called masculinity trend might be best left in the "bad idea" pile.
