"What appears to you as two players on the podium they were actually three!" - Nada Hafez.
With great honour and surprise, Nada Hafez, an Egyptian fencer, announced her big news on Instagram this week.
Hafez is a three-time Olympian, and at 26 years old, she was happy to announce that she made it to the round of 16 women's sabre at the Paris Olympics 2024.
According to the Olympics website, "Hafez beat USA’s Elizabeth Tartakovsky in the first round of the women’s sabre competition before being knocked out by Jeon Hayoung of the Republic of Korea."
She shared her big news with the world in an Instagram post.
7 MONTHS PREGNANT OLYMPIAN!
What appears to you as two players on the podium were actually three! It was me, my competitor, & my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!
My baby & I had our fair share of challenges, be it both physical & emotional. The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life & sports was nothing short of strenuous; however, it was worth it. I’m writing this post to say that pride fills my being for securing my place in the round of 16!
This specific Olympics was different; Three times *Olympian* but this time carrying a little Olympian one!
The official account for the Olympics posted the news on their Instagram page and attracted some fun commentary from other women.
- "Meanwhile I'm also 7 months pregnant and I rotate in bed like a rotisserie chicken, snacks on both sides "
- "Whatever a man can do, a woman can do it pregnant"
- "Absolutely incredible and inspiring. We can do hard things!!!!"
- "Baby is already an Olympian"
- "That’s her body, she’s responsible if anything happens. 7 months along, at least we know women can do anything they set their minds to!"
