Sometimes, you have to look at things from a different perspective.

There's nothing easy about raising a toddler, especially a clingy toddler.

It can be challenging to comfort a clingy toddler because, as a mother, you only want to help your child feel at ease. While clinginess in toddlers is normal, identifying its reason can be helpful.

A mother who seems to have taken a more 'active' approach proved that sometimes you must go with the flow.

In a video shared on social media, a toddler is seen crying and clinging to his mother on his sports day.

The young boy is at the start line of his race, holding on to his mom as if he is scared for his life.

In case you were wondering what a clingy toddler is, the What To Expect website shares some signs of a clingy toddler.

  • Wanting to be held or carried frequently
  • Crying when put down
  • Throwing frequent tantrums
  • Checking for your presence
  • Resisting bedtime

You could help your toddler by paying closer attention to some of the reasons behind clinginess:

  • Is your toddler going through a significant life change? This is a common reason behind clinginess.
  • Are you away from your toddler for long periods? It might be that your toddler is just missing you.
  • Has your child missed a nap or a meal? This could also contribute to extra clinging.
  • Is your toddler feeling unwell? A child could want to be closer to you if they have a cold, teething pain, etc.
  • A child feeling confused or in a new scenario could be another common reason.
