Since the 2022 floods, the KwaZulu-Natal community has been on edge regarding weather warnings. Many people are still trying to recover from the aftermath of those floods.

If we are honest, we will admit that the floods and storms have left us with a sense of PTSD.

And just like that, as we prepared for a political storm, a real storm battled its way through the town of Tongaat/Westbrook and left its mark on residents in a harsh and destructive way.

Look at some of the scenes of the horrific weather conditions that hit Northern KZN.

To stand together for the residents who were affected, community members have started collection drives.

The one that we first heard about was initiated by Ward 35. The items that are required include:

  • Non-perishable food items
  • Blankets
  • Toiletries
  • Children's toys
  • Adults clothing
  • Children's clothing
  • Toilet paper
  • Bottled water

The collection points are: Eastman's SPAR (42 Ashley Avenue, Glenashley); ENS (45 Hilken Drive, Herrwood Park); and Grace Family Church (29 Flanders Drive, Cornubia).

The collection points are open from 4 June to 9 June 2024.
