As parents, there is rarely a moment where we leave the house without a packed bag for the kids. Whether that bag contains nappies or a spare outfit, sunblock or loads of face towels, the bag is a necessity for most parents.

It's a big part of being prepared for pretty much anything. And if you are a parent, especially a new one, don't take this advice lightly. As much as it doesn't seem like a serious affair, being overly prepared is better than not being prepared at all.

This is why we asked Carol Ofori to share her top three must-haves when it comes to travelling with your children. Of course, we all learn through experience, but if you can avoid being stuck in a sticky situation, then why not?

On that note, talking about being in sticky situations, whoever created wet wipes is an absolute genius and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts. We cannot stress the importance of having wet wipes with you whenever you are leaving the house.

So, obviously, the first on the list is wet wipes. It saves to buy these in bulk because they are versatile in nature and can be used to wipe down surfaces as well as cleaning messy kids. It also gives you peace of mind when it comes to wiping down the kids' hands before and after they eat, especially when water is not readily available.

The second item is a valuable one for Carol, considering she flies back and forth from Durban to Johannesburg with her kids - and it is a great tip for parents flying with children. She shared that when flying, make sure to pack lollipops and water in your hand luggage.

The lollipops help with the altitude, because as we travel in the air and reach a certain point, our ears tend to get blocked. It's more uncomfortable for kids, so sucking on a lollipop helps with the popping of the ears and it certainly helps calm them down as well.

So that's a two-in-one benefit with that tip. The water is just to rehydrate as well, because they may feel their throats get dry when flying. So make sure to keep bottled water close by.

The third one is something that should be on your list at all times when leaving the house. And this one is for the kids and can help you as a parent as well. Pack snacks! Snacks are vital because they help when you are far away from a food outlet, helps occupy your child if they are getting restless, and, most importantly, calms us down as parents.
