Carol Ofori shares helpful tips on how to start your voice over artist career
Updated | By East Coast Radio
She admittedly had to learn many things on her own, so listen closely, she's got you covered...
Our sweet and sassy Carol Ofori doesn't just keep KZN entertained with her smooth voice. She is also the voice behind many television and radio adverts.
Carol Ofori's career as a voice over artist started out humbly, because when she started, she had to figure things out as she went along.
This is why she has taken the time to provide buddying voice over artists with some helpful tips.
She has five important tips that will help anyone thinking of getting into the field:
1. Training
Carol says that the means to become a voice over artist is much more accessible to people nowadays. With the internet at your fingertips, you can choose both paid and free courses. As with anything, practice makes perfect. So, be sure to keep practicing and always give your best.
2. Criticism
Like anything in life, no one is born doing everything perfectly the first time. It may feel difficult to hear critiques, but it is best to look at it as a way of growing. "You may not like everything you hear but it's important to take the feedback and listen back to yourself as often as possible. You should get to a point where you smile when you hear a recording of yourself back. That's when you know you are getting better and better." (IOL)
3. Bye shy
Say goodbye to shyness. Carol believes that shyness never gets anyone anywhere. She believes in being bold and standing out from the crowd. "Practice and try to emulate other voices you like - but remain original in finding your own voice. Remember, no one on earth sounds like you so own it." (Carol Ofori)
4. Research
Like any form of work, it always speaks volumes when you learn a thing or two about the client. Carol says that it pays to be prepared and by researching the role as well as the client, you can tailor your delivery to what the client wants from you.

5. Listen to your clients
Clients know what they want, so they will guide you in your performance. Make sure to listen and learn. "I learned some of my signature sounds and techniques from following the direction of my clients because they are very clear about what they want. Yes, sometimes they can get rude in trying to explain the execution of what they want, but do not take anything personally - take the feedback and keep it moving." (Carol Ofori)
