Cape Town mom goes old school with her loadshedding hacks
Updated | By East Coast Radio
We love how prepared this mother is for loadshedding.
We came across a video on TikTok that caught our attention.
It showed two young boys stomping on their laundry that was soaked inside the bathtub. We won't lie, the image reminded us of people smashing grapes in barrels for wine.
But we wondered what the story was behind this laundry hack.
Awaatif Manie was happy to share the story behind it all and even went as far as helping us out with some of her other loadshedding hacks.

We asked Awaatif what happened here and this is what she had to say:
Well, it was a last-minute thing and we had loadshedding. It was 5pm on a Sunday and I realised I forgot to wash their school clothes and I was definitely not going to hand wash 6 children's school clothes, so, I called the two youngest kids as they love being messy. I told them in the old days my mom used to do manual washing and made me step on it as I was one of the youngest. They thought it was fun in the beginning as they got to mess in the water, until 20 steps became 50 steps...- Awaatif Manie

We think that this mother has it all figured out with this washing hack so, naturally, we asked her to share some of her other loadshedding hacks.
- Using old-school lanterns to keep the rooms bright instead of the loadshedding lights
- Braai for supper is always a stress reliever
- Fill 5ltr water bottles up with water and freeze them up, this helps with keeping their meat products frozen if they get four-hour loadshedding.
We love all of these, but the last one sounds like a winner.
