Besides teaching them about giving and being kind, getting them advent calendars is a great way to get them excited about the countdown to Christmas.
Advent calendars have evolved over the years. Traditionally, they have chocolates or treats inside each day so that the kids get a sweet treat each day preceding Christmas.
The fun in advent calendars is also to make it about doing certain activities with the family.
Sometimes people make it a way for them to pay it forward, other times it is a way of sharing your gratitude.
One mom who got her kids traditional advent calendars was pleasantly surprised when one of her kids made one for her. Yes, he upcycled an old pizza box into an advent calendar.
