In this day and age, we are shocked that people still get all in their feelings about breastfeeding. There’s a huge difference between being sexual and feeding your child! If you’re a breastfeeding mum, you would understand completely.

So when Australian snowboarder, Torah Bright, shared a personal tribute to her son on Instagram and got shamed by users, it literally left us dumbfounded. Why is this so bad?

But more than that, she received a lot of negative comments from ‘mothers’… how sad that we live in a world where women break each other down.

The post has since been removed, as it was an Instagram story, but it read:

"Becoming a mother has unleashed something inside of me. 💖 It's deeply spiritual. 💖 It's primal. 💖 It's raw. 💖 it's fierce. 💖 It is pure. 💖 I am mother," she wrote in the caption. "My prayer for all mothers, now and in the future is that they be heard. Honoured. Respected and encouraged to trust their intuition." (Torah Bright - Instagram - People Magazine)

She posted a video addressing the comments and it is what we would call succinct and on point.

As women and as mothers, we should be uplifting each other and supporting each other. Torah was simply sharing the beauty of being able to feed her baby, and the fact that we immediately go in for the attack instead of seeing the sanctity is symbolic of the society we live in.

Many mothers aren’t able to breastfeed and this is a tribute to them as well and to their kids. We’re all doing the best we can as mothers and that should be the unifying factor.

Here’s to being supportive to others and their rights to share their special moments. Let’s use social media as a way of inspiring and motivating…
