#AppreciationMonday: An eight-year-old hides his handwritten book in library and it's a hit!

A beautiful story about good things happening to those who wait...

Life is certainly full of surprises, and we have to admit that the surprise is always sweeter when it is something you are not expecting. In this instance, it was all about the way things panned out for an eight-year-old boy...
He wrote an 81-page Christmas tale and hid it amongst the other books in the U.S library. The handwritten book was hidden without anyone noticing, which is brilliant in itself, not to mention pretty brave for an eight-year-old...
Clearly he has all the makings of a great writer.
He was pleasantly surprised after finding out that his book had a waiting list, with 56 people waiting to read it.
"The fictional novel tells the story of how Dillon was decorating his Christmas tree when it exploded, magically transporting him back to the year 1621. The year is a reference to when the Thanksgiving holiday was first celebrated in the US, a fact he checked with his mother while working on the book over the winter holidays." (BBC)
There was a lot of librarians that I had to sneak past, so do you know what I did? I covered up this part and covered the back with my body and just snuck it in. I always be sneaky, like how I get chocolate.- Dillon Helbig

The library saw the value in his book and processed it into their collection. The little genius already has plans for his sequel, and this time he shared that it would based on actual events.
"And he has already decided on a title for it - The Jacket-Eating Closet." (BBC)
Dillon's book definitely fit all the criteria that we would look for to include a book in our collection.- The Library Manager, Alex Hartman
