Beware, South Africans can bite if you don't honour their heroes.

We all have a soft spot for our local heroes – especially when it comes to sports.

Siya Kolisi isn't just a legend on the field; he’s admired for his devotion to family, generosity toward those in need, and unwavering team spirit.

Of course, if you know South Africans, you'll know we take our sporting icons very seriously.

So, when an American took to TikTok to ask, “Who is Siya Kolisi? – let’s just say, it didn’t go down well.

What made it even worse? He wasn’t exactly subtle about it…

Sure, it’s fair to say that not every tourist – especially those who aren’t rugby fans – would know who Kolisi is.

But the issue wasn’t just that he didn’t recognise him. It was the way he made a fuss about being stuck in the background of all the fan photos.

South Africans didn’t hold back when responding to Spencer, the American tourist who found himself in the hot seat.

Hailing from New York City, he was visiting Cape Town on holiday – unaware that he was about to stir up a storm.

Check out some of the comments from the post below.

  • "This is your sign to go home."

  • "True. Next flight, please. We can't deal."

  • "Tell me you're not South African without telling me you are not South African."

  • "Who is this? To THE Siya Kolisi?"

  • "Maybe that's a sign to go back home now."

  • "He's the head boy of South Africa."

  • "That's Captain South Africa, who are you?"

We'll admit that we did but feel a little sorry for him. After all, how many of us could confidently name every sports legend if we were visiting the US?
