It takes courage and spirit to speak up and act instead of just talking. This is true of anything in life. If you want to do something then it's all well and good to speak about it, but actually taking the reins and doing it, well that's a whole other thing.

We love it when people take initiative, and when it's people in our province, then we beam with even more pride. We heard about this story and thought it was important to share, considering it takes a village to take care of a village.

A couple who are from the south coast of Durban's Amanzimtoti have decided to be the change and act on what they think is important. The belief that Godliness is next to Cleanliness is definitely something we promote, and this story uplifts that belief.

Miles and Anna Kendrick noticed that the area that spanned Rockview and Andrew Zondo roads intersection, all the way down to the Amanzimtoti River bridge, was not being cleaned by the municipality. So they decided to take action and have hired someone to clean the area at their own cost. (South Coast Sun)

According to the ward councillor, André Beetge: "Factors affecting the cleaning of the streets and refuse collection include the municipality’s staggered shifts and trade unions effectively dictating to the municipality." (South Coast Sun)

Anna and Miles are making a call to all the businesses in the affected area to come together for this clean up cause. Keeping their community clean and beautiful is in their hands, as we cannot always rely on the municipality to keep our streets clean.

"The idea is to employ Attie and Tess on a permanent basis once or twice a week to keep these areas clean. Our idea is for each person or business to donate a monthly amount of R50 to pay for their service,” said Miles. He can be contacted on 083 441 5676. (South Coast Sun)
