World Maths Day is a reminder to appreciate this skill because whether we like it or not, maths is a part of our everyday lives.

Not everyone finds maths exciting – perhaps because it has always been seen as a difficult subject. But that perception often comes from past experiences, and a fresh approach can change the way you see it.

Today is World Maths Day, an initiative by 3P Learning, the creators of Mathletics, an online learning program for children aged 5 to 16.

According to 3P Learning, "World Maths Day is celebrated yearly to make maths exciting and engaging for all school-aged children worldwide – regardless of cultural or socio-economic background and ability. World Maths Day disregards the notion that you are either a ‘maths person’ or not."

On this day, learners from around the world log into the 3P Learning website to compete in 20 rounds of 60-second live maths challenges.

Each correct answer earns them a point, with scores proudly displayed on the World Maths Day platform, showcasing their achievements on a global stage.

We asked Carol Ofori about doing maths with her kids – she was quick to say it's her husband, Greg Ofori, who takes the lead on maths homework.

Since today is all about making maths more engaging, we’re sharing some fun maths hacks to help with percentages, division, and multiplication.

1. Division

Here’s a nifty trick for dividing by nine. Add one to the first digit of the number to get your answer. For example, 45 ÷ 9 = 5 (since 4 + 1 = 5).

While this method works specifically for nine, it’s a handy way to remember your division.

2. Multiplication

When multiplying by 11, there's a simple way to find the answer quickly. For example, with 25 × 11, add the two digits together (2 + 5 = 7) and place the sum between them, giving you 275.

3. Percentages

Percentages can be tricky if you're not a math fan, but this simple hack makes it easier.

To find the percentage of a number, break it down into smaller numbers. For example, 30% of 70 can be calculated as 3 × 7 = 21.
