The Royal Show has racked up new attractions like you can't believe! From mobile bungee jumping to games on horseback, there is no shortage of fun and energy at the Royal Show 2018. Here are our top 10 reasons to attend this year's Royal Show.

Year on year, the Royal Show astounds show goers with a ton of diverse and thrilling events that appeal to attendees of all ages. From fire and adrenaline to horseback games to bungee jumping, the list of reasons to attend this year’s Royal Show is growing every day! Take a look at 10 of the most exciting new attractions that all can enjoy at the Royal Show 2018.

Soweto Towers ON THE GO 

For the first time ever, Soweto Towers ON THE GO will be at the Royal Show! Everyone has heard of the Soweto Towers, otherwise known as Orlando Towers, and the very same bungee and SCAD freefall experts will bring a fifty-metre mobile facility to the showgrounds for your adrenaline pursuit. Don’t miss out – have your go in the vertical adventure centre at the Royal Show 2018! Please note that Soweto Towers ON THE GO reserve the right to restrict access to those with certain medical conditions for your safety.  

Mounted Games 

The Mounted Games is an exciting equestrian event wherein a few brave and agile riders and their horses compete individually and in teams, whilst playing out a series of games from horseback. Check out this ‘new’ extreme sport at the Royal Show on the for an exhilarating demonstration of fitness and talent.

Monster FMX ‘Flight Night’ 

Freestyle motocross (FMX) found its feet in the 90s and its popularity wanes not. The Monster FMX ‘Flight Night’ will be an astounding display of extreme sports talent at the Royal Show. Riders will perform tricks and jumps to thrill the audience and get every pulse pumping. If you’re looking for reasons to attend the Royal Show, this is a fiery one

Drone Racing

One of the fastest growing sports in the world is coming to Africa’s biggest mixed agricultural show! Drone racing has only grown in popularity since the contraptions were launched commercially, and the fun hasn’t lost momentum. Some of South Africa’s top drone racing pilots from the KwaZulu-Natal Drone Racing Club will visit the grounds for this new attraction and showcase their highly dextrous craft. Attend the Royal Show from 9am to around midday on the 3rd of June 2018 to be amazed by their talent!

uMgungundlovu Youth Festival                                      

Featuring hosts and artists from Gagasi FM as well as legendary local artists, the uMgungundlovu Youth Festival promises to be a riotous afternoon of groove delight. Kwaito legends L’vovo and Beezory will be ‘vibing’ with show goers, along with Gagasi FM’s Sphetacula, DJ Naves and more! Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind musical event… 

Royal Hindvani Extravaganza and Bhangra 

Community radio station Hindvani has always showcased what it means to love Hindi language and culture in South Africa, and it will be no different at the Royal Show! This new attraction will feature the Flash Entertainers, Aradhna’s School of Dance, and Bhangra by Hindvani. Of all the reasons to attend this year’s Royal Show, this Hindvani event will surely be the most dazzling.

Indigenous Veld Goat Auction

 The KZN Indigenous Veld Goat Club has partnered with the Royal Show to host a commercial all breeds auction of fertile breeding stock. The aim of the KZN IVG Club and others like it is to promote the resilient indigenous veld goat breeds to grow the South African goat meat industry and thus, the economy. The auction will be held in Ring 1 of the Sheep and Goat Section, on Sunday the 27th of May.

Young Auctioneers Competition 

Reasons to attend the Royal Show don’t get more uplifting and motivating than the KZN leg of the Toyota SA National Young Auctioneer Competition. The event was dreamt up to encourage young people to consider the livestock auctioneering profession. The winner of this leg of the competition will join finalists in the Alfa Show in Parys in September, as well as receive a jacket sponsored by Veeplaas, R1 000 prize money courtesy of the Royal Show, and financial assistance to attend and participate in the Alfa Show Nationals! Second and third place receive R500 courtesy of the Royal Show. What are you waiting for – join us on Monday the 28th of May for more fun! 

Dog Agility 

The 1st and 2nd of June 2018 will see man’s best friend running and jumping through a fast-paced dog agility competition! The dogs’ talent and obedience will be tested in this family-friendly event, as sixty to seventy-odd dogs of various breeds tackle the course. The canine athletes and their trainers will compete in the KZN Dog Jumping Championships and KZN Novice Agility Championships on Friday, 1 June, whilst the KZN Senior Agility Championships will be held on Saturday morning, 2 June. 

Working on Fire 

Working on Fire is a Department of Environmental Affairs funded programme that aims to teach the public, especially primary school children, about the impact of fire indoors and in the wild. Working on Fire runs programmes to address fire safety, management, awareness and damage rehabilitation and more. Of course, they have secured a spot at the Royal Show 2018! Working on Fire kids zone invites children and parents to enjoy their educational and entertaining presentation, featuring the organisations mascot!
