Buses block major Durban roads

Today's protest action has spilled onto the roads, blocking several key routes into and out of Durban. Empty buses have been parked on some major routes causing significant traffic delays.

So far, it's been confirmed that the unmanned buses are blocking parts of Umgeni Road, the M4, in both directions at Blue Lagoon and the N3 heading into town at Spaghetti Junction.
Metro Police spokesperson, Sibonelo Mchunu says they're still identifying all the affected areas.
"We are re-enforcing to get those buses removed and we will have them removed as soon as we have mobilised our resources," he said.

One driver said he found he couldn't get out of any intersection in Durban North and he used inter-leading roads.
He has urged other drivers not to go into any intersections in Durban North - saying the bus drivers just parked the buses and abandoned them.
Meanwhile, this motorist says the N3 heading into Durban is backed up from Spaghetti Junction all the way to Pinetown.
"We saw a back-up of traffic and traffic is moving really slow. People are on their phones trying to figure out what's happening here," he said.
Here are the affected roads around the city.
- M4 in both directions in the vicinity of Blue Lagoon.
- Umgeni Road.
- N3, Eastbound, heading into town at Spaghetti Junction.
- Adelaide Tambo and Swapo Road.
- Umhlanga Rocks Drive at the Blackburn and Broadway intersection.
