Wondering where to stay in Johannesburg?
Updated | By Rory Petzer
I've just returned from a chaotic few days in Johannesburg.
Looking for a hotel, I checked the Sandton area. I needed to be somewhere close to Sandton City, somewhere convenient and easy to get to, but most of all I wanted to find a hotel that was affordable, and comfortable.
Nothing better than getting back to your room at the end of a long day and feeling like .... you're at home.
I decided on the Holiday Inn at 123 Rivonia Road ... and I'm honestly so glad I did.
My entire experience was nothing short of incredible.
In fact, I was so blown away by the hotel and the amazing team of people that work there, that I decided to write about it.
When I find a gem, I like to let everyone know about it...
The Holiday Inn Sandton is beautiful in every sense of the word. From the outside standing tall against the Joburg skyline, and inside warm and elegant.
Magnificent chandeliers, comfy couches and welcoming smiles from a team of people who clearly adore what they do.
As soon as you walk into reception, you'll notice just like I did, that service ... begins with a capital S.
One of the most appealing things, for me, about the Holiday Inn Sandton is that it's perfectly situated. It's a few minutes walk to Sandton City, a stones throw away from the Sandton Gautrain Station, The Sandton Convention Centre and the diverse range of restaurants, shops, entertainment and vibrant nightlife Johannesburg has to offer. It's no wonder the hotel is an ideal base for business and leisure travellers.
A few International airlines accommodate their crew at the Holiday Inn Sandton, and at breakfast one morning, I got chatting to a pilot and some air hostesses who only had positive things to say about the hotel.
The rooms are amazing!
After a long day, I couldn't wait to get back to my soundproof room with blackout curtains.
State of the art beds imported from the United States, which even have cushioning designed to create the ultimate sleep experience and even the pillows are special, with a combination of a soft and firm support that, together, give you the best sleep you’ve ever had.
While you're there, make some time and pop in to the Skye Bar on the 9th floor for a sun-downer and at the same time take in the unsurpassed views of the Johannesburg skyline
The 9th floor is also home to the hotel's sought after incredibly stylish conference rooms.
The hotel also boasts an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, wireless connectivity throughout the hotel and even a baby- sitting service.
So, next time you're in Joburg, give the Holiday Inn Sandton a try.
I'm pretty sure you'll love it as much as I did...
