The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge seems to be the latest trend to go viral on social media.

It sees participants challenging each other to a challenge where they pour ice water over their heads, or make a donation in aid of ALS.

I thought I would shed some light on what ALS is...

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also referred to as Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a neurodegenerative disease.

When one is diagnosed with this disease their muscles get rapidly weaker due to muscle atrophy, they have difficulty speaking, swallowing and breathing.

Quite a few people have come out and said that the Ice Bucket Challenge is a waste of water and is pointless if the participants don't actually donate any money.

One the show we spoke to South African TV personality, Sade Giliberti, who has come out to share her view on the Ice a bucket challenge.

She questioned if people were donating money to MNDA of South Africa.

We also spoke to Samantha whose mother died from MND and she shared how people need to educate themselves about MND/ALS.

I'm all for the awareness, I strongly believe that we need to educate ourselves about the world we live in especially with diseases that aren't often spoken about such as MND.

I think the first time I had heard of MND was when Joost van der Weistheizen was diagnosed and before that I didn't know it existed.

Have you taken part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?

Have you donated money to MNDASA?

Have you educated yourself about the disease?
