With its signature blend of classical, pop and indigenous music, the choir has a growing international following with supporters in the USA, Asia, Europe and the rest of Africa.  The Kearsney choir has won nine gold and six silver medals at the Games in the last decade.

Before the start of this year’s Choir Games it will perform at the ‘Rhythms of One World’ choral festival in Switzerland; and has also been invited to perform at the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva.

Last year the choir received a standing ovation at the opening concert at the UN headquarters in New York, where it performed in honour of the anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter.

This year the 64-member choir has also been invited as the only African choir to perform solo at the Choir Games’ final closing concert which is expected to include 20 000 group singers and an audience of 30 000 people in an outdoor amphitheatre.

At the 2012 Choir Games held in Ohio, USA, the Kearsney choir won gold in both categories it entered - the Music of the Religions and Folklore - as well as Champion status in Folklore.  Having been voted crowd favourites, the choir was invited to perform at the Games’ final Celebration Concert.

The Choir Games is the Olympics for choirs and is the largest competition in the history of choir music.  It is held every second year and the last event attracted 15 000 participants and 352 choirs from 61 nations.
