Frantic 911 call from aeroplane
Updated | By Rory Petzer
Emergency services telephone dispatchers receive some bizarre phone calls.
However, the 17-second call you're about to hear is possibly up there with the strangest.
After deciding to take a nap in the cargo hold, a baggage handler wakes up with the plane in mid-flight, and makes a desperate 911 call pleading for the aeroplane to stop.
He also banged on the ceiling of the cargo hold, and was heard by the pilots as well as the first class passengers.
The flight, from Seattle to Los Angeles, was forced to turn back after 14 minutes, after which the worker was found alive.
The man has since been banned from ever working for Alaska Airlines.
A spokesperson for the airline said the baggage handler was lucky to have been trapped in a part of the plane that was pressurised and temperature controlled.
Let's talk airtravel: Are you generally a nervous flyer or do you look forward to boarding an aeroplane?
