Dis-Chem Foundation gives back
Updated | By tanstan fourie
We asked you to nominate a charity in need of assistance, and we've been inundated with incredible motivations for charities and organisations which are really making a difference in people's lives.
After much deliberation, this month we've selected the Little Fighters Cancer Trust as our Dis-Chem Foundation Pay it Forward campaign charity. R75 000 is on its way to them from the Dis-Chem Foundation!
The Little Fighters Cancer Trust received several heartfelt nominations through our Pay it Forward campaign, and it's clear that they do incredible work for the community.
Here's one of the motivations that we got for Little Fighters:
"These guys do amazing work by helping children with cancer. With limited funds and resources they are able to reach out to families and provide them with much needed care for their suffering and terminal children. It is heart rending work that takes pure dedication and energy, and Little Fighters Cancer Trust does a wonderful job at reaching and helping as many families as they can throughout South Africa... They truly put the children and the family first and it is so great so see such humble values in today's society, where everything has become so cheap, disposable and mass produced... This is a charity with feeling and soul! Filled with light and spirit to help guide these little fighters!!"
Mandie Erasmus from Little Fighters was overwhelmed by the news this morning that R75 000 is coming their way. "On behalf of children battling cancer in South Africa every single day, I thank you from the bottom of my heart," she said.
In studio this morning we had two of the local volunteers who work for Little Fighters, Debbie and Emma, and we met Gareth, who is a cancer fighter.
More about Little Fighters:
Little Fighters undertake to promote and advocate National Childhood Cancer Awareness in an effort to increase the number of diagnosed Childhood Cancer cases in South Africa, as an increase in earlier diagnosis will result in a higher survival rate for Children with Cancer in South Africa.
Within a short span of time, the Little Fighters Cancer Trust has grown tremendously, and during the 2012 financial year reached just under 800 Children with Cancer from across South Africa, with some form of support.
