I am not a fan of trucks; if you listen to the show then you would know that…

In actual fact if I was the minister of transport I would rebuild the railway lines so that all the heavy duties move from the ports via rail to the cities.

I would be looking into other technologies like the drown delivery system. For me general road users with their families sharing the same roads as 18 ton trucks, is just a recipe for disaster

And heavy trucks trying to make their way up and down fields hill is just plain insanity!

One year after this Fields Hill incident and I am sorry to say the focus is still on one particular truck driver and NOT the greater issue on hand which that of trucks on our roads…

It's a year since the tragic accident on Field's Hill in which 23 people died. We asked our listeners to answer this question:

Is the road safer than it was a year ago? Has anything changed?

Here is what they had to say:

Bev says:
Police have been weighing trucks at weigh bridge just before St Johns Bridge. That’s going up the hill. Why not weigh vehicles going down the hill?

Johno says:
Not much has changed, trucks still use the road and very little police presence! I try to avoid fields hill due to fear of another incident!

Irene says:
It just shows you how fast time goes by. We should really take time to really love our loved one as we don't know what tomorrow brings.

One driver says:
There is always a police presence enforcing the truck restrictions during peak traffic times. I see them every day so well done to them! Keep it up!

Another driver agrees:
I drive on Fields Hill everyday. The police are around more, pulling trucks over to not go up or down the hill. But motorists still speed.

Yolanda says:
I feel nothing has changed, there are still many trucks using fields hill. There is hardly police activity apart from one point at just opposite the Village Road off-ramp. Just two nights ago I almost hit a truck that was basically standing still while climbing Fields Hill coming from Pinetown.

Fields Hill crash survivors speak out, almost exactly one-year-later, they have many questions that remain unanswered.
