Building a jungle gym
Mark From The Guardian wrote in to the Big Favour to ask if we could assist to make Mam'Khulu's dream come true.
"Dear Damon and the Big Favour.
We have met a couple of times and I have been on your show with work I have done. I am the specialist child abuse investigator from The Guardian. Anyway, I deal everyday with tragic stories of things that children have been through but today I heard a story that got me. There is a lady in Kwa Mashu who over the last few years has taken into her home 17 aids orphans. They vary in age between 4 months and 12 years. She cannot claim grants for them as they don't have ID's and clinic cards. She has 3 mattresses and 6 sheets for all of them to share, there is not enough clothing for everyone, none of the children have Pyjamas and there are no toiletries and food is a daily challenge. Through Just-Us-4-Children their social needs will be met i.e. clothing, food, pyjama's, toiletries, bedding etc. (I'm getting a lump in my throat just typing this) anyway.... this woman is clearly an angel and needs some sort of medal.
When I spoke to her today, I wanted to give her something as a gift so she could know how much she is appreciated and so I asked her, over and above all of this stuff that she needs for the kids, if she could have anything in the world what would it be, and she said a Jungle Gym for the kids. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather so here's my big favour request. Is it possible to source someone who would donate transport and erect a Jungle Gym in the garden of this angel for "her" kids..."
Wow. What an incredible person.
