Abi Ray gears up for the 8 Mile
Updated | By Staff Writer
I simply cannot believe that the aQuelle Midmar Mile is now just five weeks away! Where did time go?
It was only two days ago that my Midmar mission hit me PROPERLY.
I am doing the 8 Mile on the weekend of 8 & 9 February. It sank in and my immediate thought was, "can I really do this?!"
I started my training very casually in October last year and each week have stepped it up even if just slightly!
If it weren't for the Christmas holidays I'd be ready, set to go! But that little two week break has created a little uncertainty in me.
Before Christmas I felt strong and I had reached a point in my training where doing a 2.3km per swim was actually feeling comfortable. After Christmas, I got into the pool and struggled through my 1.8km training session.
All is not lost though.. I am focussed again after having four sessions since Christmas.
Just today I swam 3kms in training; by accident, mind you! I sort of misunderstood the program that my trainer from Aquazone sent me, and added 600m to my swim!
The preparation now, with less than five weeks to go, needs to be serious. I need to lose a kilo or three. I must provide my body with the best nutrition. I must swim. And I must stay focussed on my goal: swimming the 8 Mile for The Red Cap Foundation.
