Winged anglers rescued in KZN
Updated | By Andre Bloem
Bryan Vivier and Andrew Gray of Umkomaas Lodge Dive Charters this past weekend found a distressed gannet in the backline on the way out to Aliwal Shoal.
The gannet was covered in oil, exhausted and unable to fly.
They took the bird back to shore and delivered it to Crocworld Conservation Centre in Scottburgh, who passed it on to CROW, who will be able to rehabilitate the bird.
Later in the afternoon, another oiled gannet was found and it is believed that these birds are victims of the oil spill off Knysna almost a week ago.
On contacting CROW, they found that several other birds had also been brought in. So please – a notice to all beachgoers - if you find sea birds affected by the spill, please contact CROW directly on 031 462 1127. Well done to the Umkomaas Lodge crew and a huge thanks to CROW for the fantastic work that they are doing.
Anglers - tomorrow we will share details concerning the 2013 Nseleni fishing competition.
Durbanites can look forward to another sunny day with clear skies and a maximum temperature of 23 degrees. We have northerly winds this morning, swinging to NE later.
According to Windguru there is still a lot of swell around with a wave size of 3m at 14 seconds - but it will become bumpy and messy when the onshore wind picks up.
