WATCH - KZN dorado fishing action
Updated | By Andre Bloem
Dorado are commonly found off the KwaZulu-Natal coast in the summer months. These fish are caught on both live bait and lures. The largest dorado I have heard of weighed around 20kg.

Dorado are often found around anchored cargo ships and clumps of seaweed and other floating debris.
These fish use the shadows cast by vessels, seaweed and debris to help them hunt their prey.
Anglers off Umhlanga often drag their lures or live bait as close as possible to the cargo ships.
I remember catching a dorado right next to a cargo ship a few years back.
We were using live maasbanker at the time.
These fish grow fast and can reach sexual maturity within four to five months.
Dorado are acrobatic fighters who tend to leap out of the water when hooked and are also known for their beautiful colours.
