WATCH - Cape yellowtail fishing
Updated | By Andre Bloem
Cape yellowtail spend the majority of their lives in the cold waters of the Western Cape here in South Africa. They are also found in KwaZulu-Natal waters in the winter months.

I remember a now late fishing buddy catching an 8kg yellowtail at Kelso on the KZN south coast back in the 1970s.
These fish tend to follow the sardines to KZN and are caught off both boats and the shore.
Yellowtail are powerful fighters and are also considered good for eating.
They are listed as a green species here in South Africa.
This means yellowtail are still found in good numbers and are able to deal well with fishing pressure.
The footage below was shot in the Western Cape.
