Wales assistant coach sent home from Rugby World Cup amid betting investigation
Updated | By Gareth Jenkinson
The Welsh Rugby Union has confirmed that assistant coach Rob Howley has returned home from the Rugby World Cup amid an alleged betting violation.
The news comes just six days before their Rugby World Cup opener against Georgia next Monday.
World Rugby has confirmed that Howley will now assist with an investigation into a potential breach of World Rugby regulation 6 - which pertains to betting on rugby union.
Acting on information supplied by World Rugby, the Welsh Rugby Union made the decision to send Howley home.
No further information has been given out at this stage, as it could ‘prejudice’ the investigation.
Wales coach Warren Gatland has called up former Welsh international Stephen Jones to take over as their attack coach.
