VIDEO: Shad fishing at Uvongo
Updated | By Staff Writer

These fish taste great and can also muster a decent fight.
I caught several during the Durban Ski Boat Club Jetski Bonanza last month.
However, the shad season was closed then and I had to return all shad to the ocean alive.
The season re-opened on 1 December and I am told that some really nice shad have been caught at spots like Port Edward, Blue Lagoon and Zinkwazi.
These fish also serve as good bait for bigger predators like garrick, kingfish, couta and kob.
My father once caught an 11kg kob off the Brighton Beach tidal pool on live shad.
Shad are also caught in both Australia and the USA.
The Aussies call them tailor, while the Americans refer to shad as bluefish.
Today we visit the KZN south coast for a taste of shad fishing.
