VIDEO: Senzo Meyiwa moments
Updated | By Staff Writer
Meyiwa made six appearances for Bafana and captained them in their last four Nations Cup qualifiers.
He was born in Durban in 1987 and made his Bafana debut against Lesotho in June last year.
Meyiwa has been a regular for Pirates over the past two seasons and has captained them this season in the absence of veteran defender Lucky Lekgwathi.
Meyiwa played a big role in Pirates reaching the African Champions League final last season.
Bafana head coach, Shakes Mashaba, shed tears today when speaking about a player he entrusted with the national leadership only recently.
Mashaba revealed that the Bafana camp had functioned very well under Meyiwa and also spoke of the kindness the player showed off the pitch.
Below are a few moments from the life of a player I recall expressing great hunger for a Bafana spot earlier this year.
An injury to Itumeleng Khune helped open the door for the man from Umlazi in KZN. Meyiwa grabbed the chance impressively, keeping clean sheets in all four Nations Cup qualifiers he played in under Mashaba.
