VIDEO: Natal snoek fishing action
Updated | By Staff Writer

I saw one of just over 6kg at Quattro King of the Sea at Pumula back in May and earlier this year also reported on a large specimen caught on cracker shrimp in Durban harbour.
These fish are not often caught on shrimp.
The preferred bait for queen mackerel is sardine fillet.
They can also be caught on spoons and lures. I have fond memories of catching these snoek with Clark spoons back in the 1980s.
Snoek tend to bite around dawn and can be caught at various spots off Durban.
Alain Tardin and I tried at Blue Lagoon earlier this year, but ended up catching only shad.
The largest snoek I have heard of weighed around 10kg.
I recall the KZN Fishing Freaks catching a really nice one in Mozambique not so long ago.
Today we stay closer to home for some fine Natal snoek action.
