VIDEO: Fishing with a floating cork
Updated | By Staff Writer

It was my job to catch live bait for the adults.
The rig was a small hook, a cork and a small bit of pliable lead to prevent the bait for floating next to the cork on the surface.
I caught many fish in this manner and some of them translated into bigger fish for the bigger anglers.
I landed many blacktail, mullet and a few karanteen in this fashion.
I also recall landing a walla-walla in the early evening off north pier.
I loved the excitement of seeing my cork bouncing on the surface as fish pecked at the bait.
The trick was to wait for the cork to be dragged below the surface - which generally indicated that your prey had the hook in its mouth.
The footage below sure captures the excitement of fishing with a float.
