VIDEO: Fishing and catching tales

Experienced fishermen tend to remind you that their sport is called fishing and not catching, writes Andre Bloem.

What they are saying is that fishing and catching do not necessarily go hand in hand. Today we will share a tale of two outings.

The first story is set just off Durban and features yours truly and my East Coast Radio Sportswave teammate Alain Tardin.

We set off on his superb new jetski from Durban Ski Boat Club this morning with catching very much on our minds.

Within seconds of clearing the tip of north pier we came across a large shark just cruising along.

We would later also spot a turtle and several dolphins.

Alain soon found a good spot for catching bait and we had a number of nice maasbanker in our well within minutes.

We were also bitten off twice by shad and I had a pike chomped in half by something with very sharp teeth.

Alain saw a tuna breaching and it was a beautiful morning on the Indian Ocean.

However, we ended up fishing and not catching - apart from a weird fish that grabbed my live maasbanker on a reef.

We will show you a video soon and maybe you can help us identify my catch.

In the end, though, we went home without a fish for dinner and so we fished without catching.

Our second tale today is about catching and you can check out the action in the footage below.

I sincerely hope Alain will have better luck at the Racetech Yamaha Jetski Fishing Classic in Mozambique next week.
