I recall geelbek being caught off South Pier and suspect that anglers will be targeting this fish from South Pier now that it is open to fishing again.
Good bait options for geelbek include mackerel, maasbanker and pilchards.
Geelbek tend to feed in depths of 15 to 150 metres and spawn in KZN waters during spring.
Adults migrate here from both the Eastern and Western Cape.
The majority of geelbek success I have heard about in recent years has been achieved by deep sea anglers.
