The University of KwaZulu-Natal Westville Sports Centre is primed to host the 2018 Garuda Capital-eThekwini National Masters Volleyball tournament.
The competition which gets underway tomorrow takes place between 9-11 August and will be the fourth consecutive year that the tournament is staged at the venue.
Widely regarded as the best four-court venue in the country, UKZN believes their partnership with the tourney and eThekwini Volleyball at large will help grow the game at the institution.
“Partnering with eThekwini Volleyball has really allowed us to raise the profile of the sport at UKZN," Senior Sports Officer at UKZN, Roshnee Naicker said.
"It also gives us an opportunity to showcase one of the best 4 court venues in the country. Over the years we have successfully hosted Inter-Provincial Tournaments, Volleyball South Africa's Champions Cup and the inaugural National Volleyball League," she explained.
UKZN currently boasts successful male and female teams, Naicker says the annual Masters tournament which caters for males and females over the age of 40 and 30 respectively serves to inspire a number of youngsters.
"It really allows the young men and women of UKZN Volleyball to experience the rich history , the passion and commitment displayed by the legends of this game," she said.
Over three thousand people are expected to walk through the doors of the Sports Centre during the event.
"It means a lot for UKZN to be involved in this event. It brings back the legends of volleyball, many of them are now involved in the growth and development of UKZN Volleyball as part of our coaching and recruitment structures, Naicker concluded.
