Try machine Khumalo benched for Sharks clash with Boland
Updated | By Faheedah Crouch
Sharks Women winger and serial try scorer Ulender Khumalo will
start on the bench in their pivotal clash against Boland Dames on Saturday.
Coach Lunga Kama has made strategic changes to secure a top-four spot in the Women's Premier Division with fresh legs in the lineup, as the Sharkies aim for a decisive win to secure a semi-final berth.
The 23-year-old Khumalo has been in electric form, dotting down eleven tries in the competition so far. She starred in their 36-14 thriller against Free State last week scoring a hat trick for her side.
She says once the ball is in hand, her main goal is to get over the line.
“You’ll be surprised when I tell you I'm not thinking about the game while I play,” Khumalo said. “The mind just switches on as soon as you get the ball you just think about the try line.”
The Sharks will have fresh legs on the left wing with Silindile Dladla who starts in the number eleven jersey.
There’s a change to the forward’s pack, openside flanker Nobuhle Mjwara starts ahead of Nqabakazi Nqoro.
In the backline, Springbok fly half Mary Zulu makes a return to the side while Nontobeko Mathupha joins the midfield alongside Zinhle Ndawonde who shifts to twelve.
Anesipho Malgas starts at fullback in place of Sinenhlanha Shozi.
The Sharkies, who are on 36 log points, must win Saturday’s encounter against the Worcester-based side to secure a semi-final spot against the Vodacom Bulls.
Border Ladies, trail the Sharks by a point on the log and could surpass should they beat Free State Ladies in tomorrow’s final round.
