Trophy hunting Dolphins confident ahead of T20 final
Updated | By POD Media
Following a sixth consecutive win in the CSA T20 Challenge on Friday night, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins booked their spot in the competition final against the DP World Lions after a comprehensive win over the Warriors in Durban.
The Dolphins won by five wickets in the end at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium, however it was the manner in which they finished the game off that would have been pleasing.
The Warriors set the Dolphins 162 to win the clash which could have proved tricky, however Khaya Zondo, Jon-Jon Smuts and Jason Smith put the game to bed with the bat as the home side got home with twelve balls to spare.
Heading into their third final in four seasons, Dolphins captain Prenelan Subrayen was pleased with the team's efforts on the day.
In their home conditions the Dolphins stuck to a predominantly seam attack for the semi-final which ultimately paid off. For Subrayen, this approach was an example of how they play.
"We try and play the conditions as we see them and don't premeditate too much.
"The seamers bowled well, and we felt they were the best for the conditions which meant that we could restrict the Warriors to about 20 runs short of what we thought was par," he added.
The Lions is a side that has some of the best players in the country and in their conditions, they will be a difficult side to beat.
Despite coming up against a strong side, Subrayen believes his side are in a good space going into the final.
"I think we're peaking at the right time," he explained. "We've finished the tournament well so far and had some good results but it's all about what happens on Sunday, and we are really looking forward to another final."
The Dolphins have gone on a run of six wins in the row in the competition heading into the final. They were beaten by the Lions in the match at the Wanderers but beat the Johannesburg side in the match at Kingsmead.
The match at the Wanderers was a shortened match with both sides only having nine overs to bat and the Dolphins managed 98 for six in their overs. The Lions then went on to win the match in the final over.
