Thursday night proved very successful for KZN sport with wins for both Amazulu and Chad le Clos.
Soccer
Amazulu have beaten Orlando Pirates in the Absa Premiership.
Usuthu secured a 1-0 victory at FNB Stadium last night.
Bongani Ndulula scored the Amazulu winner in Johannesburg.
Amazulu will play their next league match on the 27th of this month.
That is when they will host Mpumalanga Aces at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Pirates have an MTN 8 assignment this Sunday.
They will be up against Supersport United in Mbombela.
There is also an MTN 8 game on the local soccer menu tonight.
Bidvest Wits will meet Bloemfontein Celtic in Johannesburg.
Kickoff is at 6pm.
The Premier Soccer League has apologised to Mpumalanga Aces.
The PSL says Aces did not break the rules in fielding Mabhuti Khenyeza against Kaizer Chiefs last week.
Aces insisted at the time that the rules allowed them to use Khenyeza while the striker was waiting for his appeal to be heard.
The PSL has now admitted that Aces were correct and that they were wrong.
Khenyeza is fighting a one-year ban imposed on him for allegedly spitting at a referee's assistant.
Arsenal have sold Gervinho.
The Ivory Coast international now belongs to Italian Serie A club AS Roma.
Gervinho joined Arsenal from Lille in 2011.
Swimming
Chad le Clos has bagged another gold medal at the FINA World Cup meet in the Netherlands.
Le Clos won the 100-metres butterfly final in Eindhoven last night.
The KZN swimmer set a new short-course world record when he claimed the 200-metres butterfly title on Wednesday.
Myles Brown, also from Durban, impressed in claiming his second silver medal in Eindhoven.
Brown ended second in the 1500-metres freestyle and clocked a new African record in the process.
Brown sliced 8.5 seconds off the record set by Ryk Neethling back in March 2000.
Berlin will host the next World Cup series event this coming weekend.
Golf
Tim Clark is the best of the South African golfers after day one of the USPGA Championship in New York.
Clark shot an opening 69 and is four strokes behind leaders Jim Furyk and Adam Scott.
Lee Westwood carded a 66 and is just one shot off the pace.
Tiger Woods..Phil Mickelson..Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel all signed for rounds of 71.
They trail by six strokes.
Richard Sterne is seven shots adrift, while Ernie Els and George Coetzee are both nine strokes off the lead.
They carded rounds of 74 yesterday.
Cricket
Cricket fans can look forward to action in Durham from today onwards.
That is where England and Australia will meet in the fourth of five Ashes Tests.
England lead the series 2-0 and are assured of retaining the famous urn.
Tennis
Andy Murray has lost in the Montreal Masters third round.
Ernests Gulbis of Latvia beat Murray in straight sets last night.
It was a better day for Novak Djokovic in Canada.
Djokovic battled back from a set down in ousting Denis Istomin 2-6 6-4 6-4.
Djokovic will play Richard Gasquet next.
Rafael Nadal is also through to the quarter-finals.
Nadal beat Jerzy Janowicz 7-6 6-4.
The Spaniard has a quarter-final date with Marinko Matosevic.
Rugby
The Sharks and Glenwood both have rugby assignments later today.
The Sharks will face Griquas in an Absa Currie Cup match in Durban, while Glenwood will meet Grey College in Bloemfontein.
